South Brunswick, NJ - Just before midnight Thursday, the Monmouth Junction Fire Department was dispatched to The Grande at Monmouth Junction development off New Road for a call of a house fire.

The attached garage of a home at 11 Kelly Way was on fire, said Scott Smith, Chief of the Monmouth Junction Volunteer Fire Department.

Police officers arrived first to find smoke pouring out of the attached garage. All residents were out of the home. The fire was inside the garage, and firefighters were able to contain it to the garage, where the flames only caused minor damage to one of the vehicles parked inside.

"The residents did a great job by calling 9-1-1 immediately upon discovering the fire and keeping all doors to the garage closed, which limited the supply of oxygen to the fire," said Chief Smith. "That ultimately helped to limit the amount of damage."

There was no damage to the living space of the home and the residents were able to return and stay overnight.
