Garbage Truck Fire Caused By Piece Of Cardboard: South Brunswick PD

The fire was deemed to be nonsuspicious in nature, authorities said. No injuries were reported.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — The garbage truck fire which closed portions of Route 1 in South Brunswick was caused by a piece of cardboard, police said. No injuries were reported.

On Thursday, around 1:20 p.m., a Republic Service garbage truck caught fire on Route 1, near Henderson Road.

The Kendall Park Fire Company was brought in to extinguish the fire as the shoulder of Route 1 remained closed.

The Middlesex County Hazmat team responded as well to address a fuel spill from the truck. The garbage truck was then removed.

According to investigation, a piece of cardboard caught fire leading to the whole truck being engulfed in a blaze.
