Gas Leak Evacuates 10 Homes In South Brunswick Wednesday

About a dozen residents on Oakey Drive and Rose Street had to be evacuated from their homes Wednesday morning due to a gas leak.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — About a dozen residents on Oakey Drive and Rose Street had to be evacuated from their homes Wednesday morning in South Brunswick due to a gas leak.

A crew doing road work in that area accidentally struck and ruptured a gas main at about 9 a.m. today, and the smell of gas was in the air, said Deputy Police Chief James Ryan.

As a precaution, officers were called to the scene and knocked on the doors of homes within a 300-foot radius of the broken line. About 12 people had to leave their homes this morning.

PSE&G is now on the scene repairing the line. The residents were allowed to return at 10:15 a.m.
