Grill Fire Sparks Garage Blaze In Kendall Park On July 4th

Homeowner's efforts and quick response from crews kept the fire from spreading to the residence.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - Kendall Park Volunteer Fire Company crews responded to a reported structure fire caused by a grill on Saturday, at 2:45 p.m., according to the department.

While crews were en route, it was confirmed that the fire was contained to the garage and that the homeowner had attempted to extinguish it, the department said.

Firefighters ensured the fire was fully extinguished upon arrival and confirmed it had not extended into the residence, according to the department.

Engine 221, Deputy Chief 230, Chief 200 and Deputy Chief 250 responded to the scene, along with mutual aid crews from Monmouth Junction Volunteer Fire Department and Kingston Volunteer Fire Department, the department said. South Brunswick Police and Kendall Park EMS also assisted.

The department is reminding residents to practice fire safety while cooking, grilling and using fireworks this summer, including never leaving a grill unattended and keeping it a safe distance from structures.

Kendall Park Volunteer Fire Company is also seeking new volunteers. Those interested can stop by the firehouse at 125 New Road on Monday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m., or apply through the department's website.
