MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ — The New Year is here! Due to the fast-spreading omicron variant, some celebrations have been canceled and others are going virtual again.

Still, there are likely to be more in-person celebrations, and if you're among those hoping to get out, here's a sampling of events happening in Middlesex County for the New Year weekend:

Jurassic Quest, New Jersey Convention & Expo Center, Edison: North America's largest dinosaur show and exhibit is here in New Jersey. Tickets are priced between $19 to $22 per person and include access to exhibits, shows, and craft activities. Additional tickets will be required for rides. General admission for children under the age of 2 is free. Tickets can be purchased online or at the venue. Until Jan. 2. Winter Wonderlights, 655 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick: New Jersey's largest animated holiday light show drive-thru is on through Jan.2. And if you haven't been here already, this is your chance. Winter WonderLights drive-thru has over 1.5 million lights animated to holiday tunes. There are 12 20’ trees, the 200’ tunnel of lights, a tribute to first responders and tons of other stunning, larger-than-life holiday-themed displays for the entire family – all synchronized to the music playing in your car. Guests can bundle up in their car, bring snacks, beverages and tune their radio to enjoy the show. For more details, click here.

Family hike at Beaver Dam Park, 11 Fresh Ponds Rd, East Brunswick: On Sunday, Jan. 2 at 1 p.m., escape the indoors and learn about Cub Scouts and how K-5 children can enjoy outdoor adventure, camping and hiking, develop character, confidence and outdoor skills in one of the most active Cub Scout Packs in the area. Join in for a hike at East Brunswick’s newest Beaver Dam Park. This 45-60 minute hike is on flat ground, but wear shoes that can get muddy. For more details, click here.
