NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — North Brunswick police released this body camera video of a police officer who came across a bad car accident Wednesday afternoon at Rt. 130 near Finnegans Lane. North Brunswick Officer Anthony Torres used a knife to cut a woman free from her burning car, and he and others pulled her and another woman from the vehicle, minutes before it became engulfed in flames.

At approximately 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, Officer Torres was on patrol when he noticed an auto collision with smoke coming from the vehicle. He returned to his vehicle momentarily to retrieve a knife, then ran to the vehicle that was still occupied by two women. The driver of the 2001 Honda SUV was obviously disoriented, while the passenger was frantic to get out of the vehicle. Both women were pinned in the car.

Officer Torres cut the driver from her seatbelt, and with the help of a good Samaritan, bent the door frame in order to make room to get them out. The passenger was able to get out through the window and get to safety. As the flames were getting worse, Officer Torres removed the driver through the window and dragged her to safety and waited with her until the arrival of fire crews and EMS. The vehicle was engulfed in flames a very short time later.
