Hit-And-Run Truck Brings Down Traffic Light On Rt. 27

The traffic light at Rt. 27 and Heathcote Road was hit by a truck and then fell onto a nearby business. Police are seeking the truck driver.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — The traffic light at Rt. 27 and Heathcote Road in South Brunswick was struck by a tractor trailer early Saturday morning, police said. The impact was so great it caused the traffic light to fall on a nearby business — and the driver of the tractor trailer fled the scene.

At 6:30 a.m. Officer Jason Gassman responded to the intersection of Rt. 27 and Heathcote Road for a struck traffic light. The impact of the crash caused the traffic light to fall onto a local business off Rt. 27.

A witness reported seeing a white tractor trailer stop at the intersection after the crash occurred. A black man got out of the cab, and appeared to observe the damage. He then got back in and left the area on Rt. 27 north.

Officers from the South Brunswick and Franklin police departments were on the scene for almost four hours Saturday while repairs were being made to the traffic signal.
