Honors Follow South Brunswick Boys Lacrosse Season

Mark Ziminski named GMC Coach of the Year, several Vikings earn GMC All-Star honors

While the South Brunswick High School boys lacrosse season ended without any titles, Coach Mark Ziminski did have the satisfaction of knowing his team got a lot out of its ability.

"We went as far as we could as a team," Ziminski said.

South Brunswick finished with a record of 12-6. It was 6-1 in its division and placed second in the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament. St. Joe's won the GMC title game, 8-4. St. Joe's is also the team that stopped South Brunswick from winning the division.

SBHS was defeated by Eastern, 10-4, in the state tournament. Part of the reason for the setback was injuries.

"Even though we didn't win any titles, it was a successful year," Ziminski said. "We played zone this year. That allowed us to stay in a lot of games."

South Brunswick also had a very good goalie in Kenny Keenan. He had a 62.5 save percentage. He was selected to the First Team among the GMC All-Stars.

Carlos Roman and Alex Lorber were both named First Team GMC All-Stars on defense. Justin Berger made the Second Team on defense.

Dom Violante, a midfielder, also made the First Team. He finished the year with a team-high 49 points. He had 42 goals and seven assists.

Matt Peterson had 33 points, with a total of 22 goals and 11 assists. Peterson was also a First Team pick.

Colin Quigley had 15 goals and 16 assists. Quigley was a Second Team GMC selection on the attack.

Riley Kleiber had 11 assists and 11 goals. He was an Honorable Mention GMC selection.

Ryan Fraass (12 goals and five assists) and Matt Goble (16 goals and five assists) also had productive offensive seasons.

Several South Brunswick players will continue playing lacrosse next season in college. Keenan will play at Brookdale Community College. Berger will play at Stony Brook. Goble will play at Montclair State. Kleiber will play at Drew.

Another honor that came the way of the South Brunswick lacrosse team was Ziminski being named the GMC Coach of the Year.

"I think we made the most of what we had as a team," Ziminski said. "I'm proud of my guys."
