Intersection To Be Named After War Veteran In South Brunswick

The intersection of Hastings Road with Kingsley Road will be named after Edward Domanoski, a Korean War veteran.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — The intersection of Hastings Road with Kingsley Road will be named after a Korean War veteran and South Brunswick resident.

The intersection will be named after Private First Edward Domanoski and will be known as Domanoski Way.

Domanoski served in the Korean War with the United States Marine Corps. He earned the Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars for Combat Valor, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Presidential Unit Citation, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the United Nations Service Medal, the Republic of Korea War Service Medal and the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge.

After the war, he worked as a conductor for Amtrak and settled in Kingsley Road, Kendall Park with his wife, Gloria, and children Donald, Michael, and Susan.

According to one of the citations, Domanoski displayed outstanding leadership and courage while serving with a Marine Infantry Company in Korea on 28 May 1952.

When the company was engaged in the attack of a strongly defended enemy position, his squad came under heavy enemy mortar and grenade fire.

Several casualties resulted, including the squad leader. Shortly after the position was overrun, and before the squad could be reorganized, the enemy launched a counterattack.

Domanoski voluntarily exposed himself to a storm of enemy fire, dashing from position to position, throwing grenades and re-organizing the squad.

"We owe our freedoms to Ed Domanowski and the men and women like him. I knew Edward Domanowski from VFW Post 9111,” Mayor Charlie Carley said. “He never talked about his war, which bespeaks a man who has seen things.”
