ISCJ Celebrates Eid al-Fitr

One of the most joyous days in the Islamic calendar celebrates the end of Ramadan.

Muslims from around the area came together on Sunday at the Islamic Society of Central Jersey for a day of celebration and prayer marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

Eid al-Fitr, which is one of the most important holidays in Islam, is recognized with prayers, gathering with family and friends, and other festivities.

Locally, South Brunswick Muslims coordinated several charitable endeavors to celebrate Ramadan. Food and clothing were delivered to the homeless at Newark Penn Station earlier this month as part of the holiday.

"One of the reasons we fast is to remember to be always thankful for all our blessings especially for our provisions," said Azra Baig of the ISCJ.

Eid al-Fitr is a day of great merriment and thanksgiving where Muslims celebrate by gathering with loved ones, preparing sweet delicacies, wearing new clothes, giving each other gifts and putting up lights and other decorations in their homes, according to the Huffington Post.
