Kendall Park Athlete Named 2011 Academic All-District First Team for College of New Jersey

Kendall Park resident Tyler Olsson selected to the 2011 Academic All-District First Team for District 2 by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Senior Tyler Olsson, of Kendall Park, a kicker/punter for The College of New Jersey football team, was selected to the 2011 Academic All-District First Team for District 2 by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
 
Olsson was selected as punter and now advances to the Capital One Academic All-America team ballot, where first, second, and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
 
A journalism/communications major with a 3.5 grade point average, Olsson had a standout year punting in 2011 averaging 37.1 yards per punt. He had four punts of 50 yards or more four times (including a long of 52 yards) and 26 punts that landed inside the 20-yard line. In his final game this season at Rowan, Olsson had an exceptional afternoon booting 10 punts for an average of 43.6 yards per kick He landed eight of those inside the Prof 20, which contributed to the 7-0 shutout win.
 
Olsson was named Special Teams Player of the Week after the Lions defeated previously unbeaten Montclair State University. He was also an All-NJAC honorable mention selection in 2010.
 
TCNJ went 7-3 this season, winning all five home contests for the first time since 1998.
 
The 2011 Capital One Academic All-District ® Football Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The Capital One Division II and III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2011-12 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program.
