Man Killed After Car Hits Tractor Trailer In South Brunswick

The impact of the crash resulted in the car being lodged underneath the trailer, requiring the driver to be extricated, police said.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — A North Brunswick man was killed over the weekend after his car slammed into a tractor trailer in South Brunswick, police said.

At 12:42 a.m. on Saturday a 40-year-old New Brunswick man was driving a 2011 Cheverolet Malibu northbound on Rt. 1, when it struck the rear of a tractor trailer driven by a 56-year-old Somerset man.

The impact of the crash resulted in the car being lodged underneath the trailer, requiring the driver to be extricated by the Monmouth Junction Fire Department, said South Brunswick Deputy Chief of police James Ryan.

The New Brunswick man was taken by EMS to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick where he was pronounced dead, Ryan said.

South Brunswick Police Traffic Safety Bureau is investigating the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call (732) 329-4646.
