Man Shoots Firearm During Police Chase In Middlesex County

No officers were injured. The suspect is still at large and investigation is ongoing, said Middlesex County prosecutor.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Middlesex County authorities are investigating a police pursuit of an armed man who fled police in a stolen vehicle and then on foot.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, Director Anthony A. Caputo of the New Brunswick Police Department, and Chief Joseph Battaglia of the North Brunswick Police Department said they were working on the case.

On Friday, Oct. 8, around 4 p.m., patrol officers of the North Brunswick Police Department attempted to pull over a stolen Honda Civic traveling in the area of Route 27, Ciccone said. When the driver did not stop, police gave chase in a vehicle, and shortly after they had to end the pursuit according to Attorney General guidelines, Ciccone said.

Officers from the North Brunswick and New Brunswick Police Departments later found the Honda on Quentin Avenue in New Brunswick began chasing a male who is believed to be the driver and was seen running from the area, police said. It was during the foot pursuit, an illegal firearm was discharged, police said.

The suspect was not apprehended and a firearm was recovered from the scene, authorities said. No officers were injured.
