Man Slashes Woman's Tires at Wrong House, Ruins Her Mother's Day: Police

"The incident ruined our Mother's Day and Mom couldn't sleep seeing the video of a man walking on the property with a knife," husband says.

South Brunswick, NJ - Trying to get revenge on a friend, a South Brunswick man went to the wrong house and slashed the tires of five different vehicles, scrawling obscenities over one of the cars — all discovered by the family on Mother's Day, police said.

Ajinka "AJ" Kelkar, 20, wanted to get revenge on a man dating his ex-girlfriend, but went to the wrong house on Friendship Road, South Brunswick police said. At around 1:15 a.m., someone sleeping inside heard a hissing noise, and went outside to find the tires slashed on a Ford pickup. The parents then woke up, and the mother found the tires slashed on her Suburban, as well. The family then saw their Jeep Wrangler had obscenities scratched to its door and fender, its tires slashed and roof stabbed.

“The incident ruined our Mother’s Day as we had to get all new tires, and Mom couldn’t sleep the rest of the night seeing the video of the man walking around the property with the knife," the woman's husband told police.

In total, Kelkar caused $10,000 worth of damage, police said. Friends who were also staying over had their vehicles’ tires slashed. The fourth and fifth vehicles damaged were a Dodge and Chevy pickup.

Police and the family reviewed the home surveillance tape and saw Kelkar attacking the cars in the driveway, police said.

Police recognized Kelkar in the video. They went to his home, but were told by his parents he was not there. Police staked out the house, and saw Kelkar inside the home at 6:30 a.m. He was arrested and officers seized the rental pickup truck they say he had used in the crime.

Police learned that Kelkar saw a car parked in the driveway that he thought belonged to a man dating his former girlfriend. The video showed Kelkar walking around the property with a knife, attacking the cars. He was charged with trespassing and third-degree criminal mischief, as well as driving without a license.

His bail was set at $10,000, which he posted and was released. Kelkar faces up to five years in prison if convicted.
