SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — The fire that broke out in a home on Margaret Drive this past Friday was electrical in nature, South Brunswick police say.
The fire broke out at 1:15 p.m. on Friday, April 19 and it started in a second-floor bedroom of the home.
Monmouth Junction Fire Dept. Deputy Chief Sean Wert arrived with patrol officers to find a fire in that bedroom, and the entire house filled with smoke. All of the residents had gotten safely outside.

The fire rose to a two-alarm status and because firefighters arrived quickly, they were able to contain the fire to the upstairs bedroom. Responding to the scene were all three South Brunswick volunteer fire companies (Monmouth Junction, Kingston and Kendall Park), as well as firefighters from Plainsboro, Jamesburg and North Brunswick Co. #2. Ambulances from South Brunswick, Monroe and Plainsboro responded and there were no injuries.
Wert said that if the area's volunteer firefighters hadn't gotten there so quickly, the fire would have been much worse.
