Mayo Medical School Dean Hired For Top Post At Rutgers Medical School

The Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick will have a new dean this summer.
Sherine E. Gabriel’s appointment as dean of the New Brunswick school is effective as of August, according to Rutgers Today.
Since 2012, she has been the dean of Mayo Medical School at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and has been associated with that school in academic and leadership roles for almost 30 years, Rutgers Today said.

She is past president of the American College of Rheumatology, and she has been recognized for “her epidemiologic studies examining the risks of connective tissue diseases among women with breast implants, population-based studies characterizing the epidemiology of nearly all major rheumatic diseases, and her studies defining the economic impact of rheumatoid arthritis,’’ Rutgers Today said.
The 57-year-old will be one of the highest paid administrators at Rutgers, where she is expected to earn $560,000 a year, NJ.com reported.

Medical school deans generally have some of the top-paying academic jobs at universities and their salaries are rising, according to the NJ.com report.
