Meet The New South Brunswick Schools Superintendent

Scott Feder started as an elementary school teacher at Indian Fields. Starting July 1, he'll be running the district.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — For Scott Feder and South Brunswick, it's all come full circle. Feder, 48, was once an elementary school teacher and administrator in the South Brunswick school district. This July, he will be returning as its new superintendent.

Feder will replace current superintendent Gary McCartney, who was always meant to serve as an interim superintendent for only the 2016/2017 school year, after the dismissal of Jerry Jellig last year. As superintendent, Jellig rankled both parents and teachers alike and the school board voted to end his five-year contract early last May. Feder is essentially Jellig's replacement. He starts July 1 at a salary of $177,000 per year.

"I wanted to go to the best place I knew. Being selected is an honor and has sparked a new sense of excitement about the possibilities," Feder told Patch. "South Brunswick is a place where I believe possibilities can become realities and who would not want to be part of that?"

Feder comes to South Brunswick from his current job as superintendent of the Millstone school district. Before that, he served as superintendent in Rumson for several years. He's also worked in the West Orange and West Windsor-Plainsboro districts, TAP Into reported.

South Brunswick really is a homecoming for him: Feder started his teaching career in the '90s, at the then-newly opened Indian Fields elementary school, as a 5th grade teacher. He moved on to become assistant principal at Monmouth Junction. South Brunswick was where he met his wife, Jennifer, a graduate of South Brunswick high school who was also teaching in the district, according to TAP Into.

"South Brunswick holds a special place in my life and rejoining the district and the community in this capacity is really one of those dreams-come-true moments," Feder said.
