Microsoft Tech Support Scam Hitting South Brunswick

The caller says he or she must remotely log into your computer to fix problems with Microsoft software. They then drain your bank accounts.

South Brunswick, NJ - The South Brunswick police department has received several reports about a scam involving a person or persons claiming to work for Microsoft Tech Support, the police said Thursday.

The caller says he or she must remotely log into your computer to fix problems with Microsoft software. Once remotely logged in, the scammers then access banking and other personal information and use that information to drain bank accounts of money.

The most recent phone number used by the person committing scam was (847) 991-3111, South Brunswick police Detective Dennis Yuhasz said.

Be cautious of phone calls in which you are asked for personal information or access to personal computers or accounts. Microsoft WILL NOT make unsolicited calls for technical issues.

- Do not purchase any software or services.
- Never give control of your computer to a third party unless you can confirm that it is a legitimate representative of a computer support team with whom you are already a customer.
- Never provide your credit card or financial information to someone claiming to be from Microsoft tech support.
