Middlesex Co. Woman Charged With Manslaughter After Newborn's Death

The 19-year-old woman and her daughter were taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital where the infant was pronounced dead, authorities said.

MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ — A 19-year-old Jamesburg woman has been charged with manslaughter after the death of her newborn, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Jamesburg Police Chief James Craparotta announced Friday.

On Wednesday, around 10:15 p.m. Jamesburg police were called out on a welfare check for 19-year-old resident, Jessica Farag. According to an initial investigation, Farag gave birth to the infant earlier that day. Officers took Farag and her daughter to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital where the infant was pronounced dead, Ciccone said.

Farag was charged with one count of first-degree aggravated manslaughter, one count of second-degree desecration of human remains and one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

She is currently being housed at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending a detention hearing.
