Middlesex County Plays-in-the-Park Season Underway

Free admission for children 12 and under, active service members and their families. Senior citizen tickets are $5. General admission is $7.

Middlesex County Plays-in-the-Park season is underway.

“For more than 50 years, Plays-in-the-Park has been providing Broadway-caliber shows to the community inside the County’s beautiful Roosevelt Park,’’ a news release from the county said.

The plays began in a small shed. It was as a theater in the summer and storage in the winter.

But now, the plays are staged at the Stephen J. Capestro Amphitheater, a state-of-the-art facility in the Edison park, the news release said.

More than a million people have attended the plays over the last 50 years, the news release said.

“Oklahoma!” began last week and runs through July 18. “Jesus Christ Superstar” will run from July 29 through Aug. 8.

Active service members and their families get free admission to this summer’s performances.

All summer performances start at 8:30 p.m. There are no performances on Sundays.

Patrons must bring their own lawn chairs.

Tickets are $7. Tickets are $5 for senior citizens. Admission is free for children 12 and under. Tickets are sold on the day of performance only.
