Monroe 12-Year-Old Arrested For Clown Threat

Monroe is taking these threats seriously, and will prosecute anyone who creates public alarm, police said.

MONROE, NJ-- A Monroe 12-year-old was charged with juvenile disorderly conduct after posting a clown threat to Instagram, police said.

On Wednesday, police were notified by the school district of an Instagram post featuring a clown saying that the clown would be at the high school the next day. An investigation lead to a 12-year-old male who attends Monroe Township Middle School.

The pre-teen was given a disorderly conduct juvenile delinquency complaint. The threat was not found to be credible and at this time, there are no credible clown threats in the Monroe school district.

Monroe police are taking the making of clown threats seriously, saying, "Anyone found to be responsible for any actions which cause alarm to the public will be prosecuted."

"Although some may find the 'clown' aspect of the current trend to be funny, many don’t which may cause physical and/or mental harm or serious injury," Monroe police said in a press release.
