Man Killed, 11 Injured In Monroe Twp. Crash
A van failed to yield to a stop sign at Matchaponix Avenue and Spotswood Gravel Hill Road and collided with a car Monday in Monroe.

MONROE TOWNSHIP, NJ — One person was killed and 11 people injured Monday morning when a van collided with a car in rural Monroe Township, New Jersey.
The man who was killed is Shashikant Patel, 81, of Monroe. He was a passenger in a Chevy Express van.
Police say the driver of the van failed to yield to a stop sign at the intersection of Matchaponix Avenue and Spotswood Gravel Hill Road; and collided with a Honda Civic. The crash occurred at 9:28 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, the Middlesex County prosecutor's office said.

Patel was pronounced dead at the scene from the injuries he sustained in the crash.
The driver and eight other passengers in the van were taken to local hospitals and treated for injuries that ranged from moderate to serious.

The driver and passenger of the 2017 Honda Civic were also taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.
The crash is being investigated by Officer Daniel Mosakowski of the Monroe Police Department and Detective Erik Larsen of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
