MONROE, NJ — The Monroe Township police department (in Middlesex County) is currently accepting applications for police officers.

General duties: Members of the Monroe Township Police Department shall at all times preserve the public peace, prevent crime, detect and arrest violators of the law, protect life and property and enforce all federal, state and local laws and ordinances within departmental jurisdiction.

2017 starting salary: Police Academy step: $45,000

Minimum qualifications:

  • Citizen of the United States between the ages of eighteen (18) and thirty-five (35) and a resident of New Jersey for the past two years.
  • Shall be of good reputation and sound moral character and shall not have been convicted of any crime involving moral turpitude.
  • Shall be a high school graduate or a graduate of an equivalent institution of learning.
  • Shall be in good physical condition.
  • Shall have normal hearing in both ears.
  • Shall have the ability to distinguish colors.
  • Must possess a valid New Jersey auto driver's license.
  • Must be successful at a four-part entrance examination:
    • Written and oral, given by the New Jersey State Chiefs Association.
    • Medical, given by the Township Physician.
    • Physical, given by the Monroe Police.
    • Psychological, given by the Township Psychologist.

Must successfully complete mandatory police training course approved by the New Jersey Police Training Commission, as set forth below.

  • An officer appointed for the Police Academy shall be enrolled and must successfully complete the mandatory police training course approved by the New Jersey Police Training Commission. Upon successful completion of the Police Academy the officer shalll be appointed to a one (1) year probationary term before becoming eligible for appointment as a permanent police officer.
  • An officer appointed for a one (1) year probationary step who has previously and successfully completed the above mandatory police training course shall be eligible for appointment as a permanent police officer once his probationary term ends.

  • Written Test - August 14, 2019
  • Physical Fitness Test - September 7, 2019
  • Oral Interview 1 - September 23 - 27, 2019
  • Oral Interview 2 - TBD
  • Background Investigation - TBD
  • Drug Testing - TBD
  • Medical Examination - TBD
  • Psychological Examination - TBD
  • Academy Training - 2020

*The written test will be administered at 6:00 p.m. on August 14, 2019 at the Monroe Township High School located at 200 Schoolhouse Road, Monroe Twp, NJ 08831. Doors will be locked at 6:00 p.m. Any applicant arriving after 6:00 p.m. will be denied entry and will be removed from the hiring process.
