Next Steps to Replace South Brunswick Mayor

The Township Council will appoint someone to the position on a temporary basis.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - With the passing of Mayor Frank Gambatese last weekend, what are the next steps to determining who will be the new mayor of South Brunswick Township?

According to State law, the office must be filled for its unexpired term at the next general election. Until then, the Township Council may appoint someone to the position on a temporary basis. Because Mayor Gambatese was a Democrat, within 15 days the South Brunswick municipal Democratic Committee is permitted to present to the Council the names of three nominees to fill the vacancy.

The Township Council will then appoint one of these nominees as mayor. The three names have not been submitted yet.
