NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — A North Brunswick man died last week while riding his motorcycle on a stretch of roadway in Tennessee that is so dangerous, it's nicknamed "Tail of the Dragon."
Abdoulaye Kinder, 48, of North Brunswick, was killed last Wednesday morning while riding his motorcycle north on U.S. Route 129. Rt. 129 is an extremely twisty and winding road that runs through the Great Smoky Mountains in North Carolina and Tennessee. It's a beloved roadway for motorcyclists, as "Tail of the Dragon" boasts 318 curves and is considered by many to be the best, most exhilarating motorcycle ride on the planet. However, "The Dragon" is also dangerous: There are steep cliffs and drop offs, and riders have encountered bears, wolves and aggressive wild boars on the road, which sits in dark Tennessee woods and is very isolated.
"The Dragon" claimed Kinder's life when he drove his 2007 Honda 999 off an embankment and down into a ravine, a Knoxville media outlet reported. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and drugs and alcohol were not involved, police said. He drove off the road near mile marker 8.
