North Brunswick Man Killed After Car Veers Off Road In Franklin

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — A North Brunswick man was killed after his car went off the road and crashed into a utility pole in Franklin Township on Monday morning, police said.

On June 26 at 11:22 a.m., the Franklin Township Police Department received a 911 call reporting a single motor vehicle crash, involving a vehicle off the road into a utility pole, in the area of Route 27 and Bennington Parkway, said Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor, and Franklin Township Public Safety Director Quovella M. Maeweather.

According to preliminary investigation, a 2016 Toyota Corolla was driving southbound on Route 27 south of Bennington Parkway and went off the road right, hitting a utility pole.

The vehicle’s sole occupant, a 68-year-old North Brunswick resident, was treated at the scene by EMS for what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries and was immediately taken to RWJBH-New Brunswick for medical evaluation.

The Franklin Township Police Department was later contacted by RWJBH staff who said that the driver was pronounced dead at 2:10 p.m. The cause of death is pending, authorities said.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team and the Franklin Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau.
