North Brunswick Modell's On Rt. 1 To Close
Modell's will close all locations nationwide, including the Modell's on Rt. 1 in North Brunswick. The chain filed for bankruptcy Wednesday.
NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Modell's Sporting Goods announced this week that it will close all of its stores nationwide after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Wednesday.
Modell's will close all of its 25 locations in New Jersey, including the Modell's on Rt. 1 in North Brunswick. Patch called and a store employee there said they were not yet given a closing date.
The chain was expected to start hosting liquidation sales both in the store and online, as of Friday.

"Over the past year, we evaluated several options to restructure our business to allow us to maintain our current operations," said Modell's Chief Executive Officer, Mitchell Modell, in Business Wire. "While we achieved some success, in partnership with our landlords and vendors, it was not enough to avoid a bankruptcy filing amid an extremely challenging environment for retailers."
