SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — 'Tis the season! Yes, a rash of package thefts has been reported in South Brunswick and Cranbury townships in the past few weeks, South Brunswick police confirmed.
South Brunswick has had six packages either stolen or torn into since Nov. 9, police told Patch. The most recent porch pirate theft occurred this past Monday, Dec. 4 on Joseph Court. Before that, there were thefts on Timberline Court, Da Vinci Drive and Sweetbriar Court in Monmouth Junction, and thefts at homes on East Garden Way and Jason Street in Dayton.
Cranbury Township has also had packages stolen this month, particularly in the area around Cranbury Greene subdivision, said Det. Dennis Yuhas of the South Brunswick police.

Sometimes the packages were cut open and items inside removed, and other times the packages were stolen. They contained a range of items, from Samsung Galaxy phones to DVDs. South Brunswick police are now asking residents to be careful and take precautions when ordering items online and having them delivered this holiday season.
"People would get email alerts that they had something delivered, but when they got home, the packages weren't there," said Det. Yuhas. "There are many steps you can take to avoid this, such as having packages delivered to your workplace, installing a front door security camera or asking a neighbor to pick your packages up."
