Padovano Ending Stellar Track Career at Meet of Champions
South Brunswick senior makes it in shot put and discus
After being away for a year, Dominick Padovano is heading back to a place he knows very well. Padovano will be heading to The Meet of Champions.
Padovano qualified for The Meet of Champions as a freshman and a sophomore in the discus. Padovano did not qualify for the event last year. Fortunately, he'll get a chance to end his senior season in style. Padovano qualified for The Meet of Champions -- which will be held Thursday at Old Bridge -- in both the shot put and discus.
"It was a very good meet for Dom," South Brunswick Coach Wilfredo Rivera said. "A lot of people would be thrilled to make it to The Meet of Champions in one event. He made it in two."

The top six finishers in each event at the Group IV meet, held at Old Bridge on June 3-4, qualify for The Meet of Champions. Wild cards from each event -- the additional top six finishers from all of the groups -- also advance. Padovano didn't need to check in with the other meets to see how he was dong, though.
Padovano was third in the discus with a distance of 172' 2". Padovano was sixth in the shot put with a distance of 51 1 3/4".

Padovano was one of seven South Brunswick athletes competing at the Group IV meet. Juwan Tisdale, Kotey Ashie, Tyrin Fairman and Kaseem Davis combined to place 13th in the 4x400 in a time of 3:25.19.
"They went out and they competed the best that they could," Rivera said.
Jonathan Pitt placed 13th in the triple jump with a distance of 42' 5 1/4".
"Jonathan is a sophomore, so this was a great experience for him," Rivera said. "Hopefully, the group meet will become the norm for him. He's got a chance to come back here the next two years."
Derek Forthun competed in the pole vault, but did not post an official height.
"The opening height was at Derek's personal record of 12' 6"," Rivera noted. "That was tough. He tried to clear it. It's still a great season."
So now the South Brunswick season comes down to the throwing of Padovano.
"He gets two cracks at it in The Meet of Champions," Rivera said. "That's great."
