Part Of Route 1 South Closed This Weekend

A portion of Route 1 south will be shut down, along with lanes of Route 18 and ramps, in the area of East Brunswick and New Brunswick.

A portion of Route 1 south will be closed overnight this weekend, along with several ramps, as crews continue to work on the Route 18 bridge over Route 1 near the border of New Brunswick and East Brunswick.

Drivers should seek alternate routes.

Route 1 closures

  • Route 1 southbound will be shut down from 12:01 a.m. until 8 a.m. Saturday, and Sunday. During those closures, traffic will be detoured to “Route 18 northbound to Route 27 to Route 18 southbound and to Route 1 southbound.” This is the final weekend for the Route 1 southbound closure.

  • From 8 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday, crews will close two lanes of Route 18 southbound and one lane of Route 18 northbound because of a temporary traffic pattern.
  • Route 18 south traffic will be split before Paulus Boulevard into two lanes. All traffic for the NJ Turnpike must stay in the left lane.

Ramp closures

  • The ramp from Route 1 south to Route 18 south, along with the Route 18 southbound right lanes, will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.
  • The ramp from Route 18 south to Route 1 north and the Route 18 southbound left lane will be closed from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday, and from 11:30 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday.
  • The ramp from Route 18 north to Route 1 south will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday, and 10 p.m. Saturday to 11 a.m. Sunday.
