Pedestrain Bridge Closed On Route 27 South Brunswick
Officials said the metal support beams under the wooden planks are severely decayed and is unsafe for pedestrians.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — A pedestrian bridge on Route 27 in South Brunswick has closed due to severe decaying, the Township has confirmed. Officials were informed by the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) that the condition of the bridge was unsafe for pedestrian use.
The bridge was used by residents to pass over Ten Mile Run, a tributary that runs through South Brunswick and Franklin Township.
On Jan. 11, the public works department received a notice saying NJDOT received a complaint that the wooden planks on the bridge were "bowing and loose," Ron Schlamtz, Public Affairs Coordinator at South Brunswick.

"We estimate the bridge was constructed 25 years ago and now the metal support beams under the wooden planks are severely decayed and offer no support to the walking path," Schlamtz said.
A structural engineer is yet to look at the bridge and once the report is in the Township will "have a better idea" on repair options.
