The police department, like others across the region, celebrated National Night Out on Tuesday.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ —The police department's biggest and most anticipated community event of the year, the National Night Out, was held Tuesday at Rowland Park.

The Community building event brought together law enforcement, community members are local organizations. Residents came out to meet law enforcement officers, eat food, play games, win prizes, watch displays and more.

The event helps create a dialogue with different members of the local community. In the past, the police department has hosted around 7,000 residents at the event.

The aim of the National Night Out is to enhance the relationship between law enforcement and the community they serve. Started in 1984, the effort promotes crime prevention activities, community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.
