Police Warn Of Apparent Scam To Solicit Funds In Wake Of Warehouse Fire

Police are urging people not to donate to any online accounts, soliciting funds in the aftermath of last week's huge warehouse fire.

In the wake of the massive warehouse fire that broke out in Middlesex County last week, some online accounts, soliciting funds to “Rebuild and fix North Brunswick” have been set up, police said.

But they are urging people not to donate.

“At this time, there are no such funds or sites sanctioned by the Township,’’ North Brunswick police said on Facebook. “Please DO NOT provide any money or information to anyone soliciting for this cause. Detectives are actively investigating this information.”

The fire destroyed a warehouse at 1600 Livingston Ave., off of Route 1 in North Brunswick last week. Smoke from the blaze could be seen as far away as Ocean County and New York City.

North Brunswick police Capt. Brian Hoiberg told NJ.com that it appears as if some people “are trying to take advantage of this situation and make some money from the fire.”
