RevCon250 Revolutionary War Fest Coming To South Brunswick Library Saturday

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — The South Brunswick Public Library will host RevCon250, an immersive history festival marking the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, on Saturday, Aug. 8.

The Main Library will be closed that day because of the event, which will include reenactments, historic music performances, games and exhibits for all ages, according to the library. Highlights include performances of 18th-century music, presentations on the experiences of African Americans and Native Americans in the colonial era, and the role of the Indian textile trade in the lead-up to the Revolution. Children can play colonial-era games and learn about spying during the war, according to the library.

The event will involve staff from the Stoutsburg-Sourland African American Museum, Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape representatives, the town historian and local businesses with colonial-era roots, said Adult Programming Librarian Zoë Lopéz. Lopéz said the event was made possible by a grant from the Arts Institute of Middlesex County.

"History should tell everyone's story, and that's what we're doing here," Lopéz said.

The festival will take place both inside the library's new addition and in the parking lot, and parking will be limited, according to the library. Overflow parking will be available in the municipal lot by the Public Works building.

Grant funding was provided by the Middlesex County Board of County Commissioners through the Middlesex County Cultural and Arts Trust Fund, with additional funding from the New Jersey Historical Commission, according to the library.
