Truck Driver in Tracy Morgan Crash Due in Court Monday

Kevin Roper will be arraigned for aggravated manslaughter for the Cranbury crash.

New Brunswick, NJ - The Wal-Mart truck driver who badly injured comedian Tracy Morgan and killed his friend in a 2014 crash on the NJ Turnpike is due in Superior Court Monday in New Brunswick, reports NJ.com.

Truck driver Kevin Roper will be arraigned for aggravated manslaughter for the Cranbury crash.

On June 7, 2014, Roper swerved to avoid traffic that had slowed down ahead of his Wal-Mart tractor trailer as he drove through Cranbury, authorities said. Some reports say he allegedly dozed off behind the wheel.

As he swerved, he plowed into the back of a limousine carrying Morgan, Jimmy McNair and fellow comedians Ardie Fuqua, Harris Stanton and Morgan’s assistant Jeff Millea, as well as the limo driver and another limo company employee.

McNair was killed. All the others in the limo, including Morgan, were injured.

Roper was speeding and had worked 13 hours straight before the crash, the National Transportation Safety Board found, reports NJ.com.

And the New Jersey State Police said Roper had not slept for more than 24 hours before the fatal accident.

In July of 2014, Morgan sued Wal-Mart for negligence, saying that Wal-Mart knew or should have known that Roper hadn’t slept for more than 24 hours. Wal-Mart settled with Morgan for an undisclosed sum.
