South Brunswick Among Safest Towns In U.S., New Report Says

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — The residents of South Brunswick can rest easy. The township ranked among the safest towns in the country according to a new report by Moneygeek, released earlier this week.

South Brunswick ranked at No. 20 in the U.S., ahead of neighboring Princeton, ranked at 21.

Four New Jersey towns - Marlboro Township (6), Bridgewater Township (7), Fair Lawn (8) and Monroe Township (10) ranked in the top 10 safest places to live, while Camden, NJ (5) was rated among the top 10 most dangerous places in the country.

Moneygeek analyzed crime statistics and calculated the cost of crime. They used data from FBI's yearly Uniform Crime Report which included violent crimes like murder and sexual assault, and burglaries and car theft.

According to Moneygeek, while property crimes were more common, violent crimes were most costly.

To determine the crime rates per 100,000 people, they added population data to the analysis. According to the report, the violent crime rate in South Brunswick was 36.9, while the property crime rate was 551.7.

Moneygeek focused on cities with a population between 30,000 and 100,000 residents.

Most of their safest small cities and towns in the country are in the Northeast, with the top two in Massachusetts and six of the top ten in New York or New Jersey.

The survey found that small cities and towns were a lot safer than large cities. However, some small cities and towns also showed crime rates comparable to big cities.
