South Brunswick Boys Track Advance Seven to Group IV Finals

Dom Padovano places in two events.

It came as no surprise that the South Brunswick High boys track team placed seventh in the Central Jersey Group IV meet this past weekend in Hillsborough. After all, South Brunswick placed seventh in eight events.

The top six finishers in each event move on to the overall Group IV finals on June 3-4. Despite all the seventh-place finishes, South Brunswick did advance seven on to the next round.

"I thought we had a pretty good meet," South Brunswick Coach Wilfredo Rivera said. "At this stage of the season, the goal is to just keep on advancing as many individuals as possible to the next round. We missed on advancing a few more by an inch here or a second there, but it wasn't because of a lack of effort."

Dom Padovano advanced in both the shot put and discus. Padovano was third in the shot (51' 5"). He was second in the discus (179' 4").

"That was his best throw in the discus ever," Rivera said. "He's such a hard worker and is so consistent. It was nice to see him move on to the next round."

Derek Forthun advanced with a fifth in the pole vault (12 feet). Considering the tough luck Forthun had in his other events, Rivera was thrilled to see him advance.

Forthun was seventh in the high jump (6' 2"), the long jump (20' 10") and the triple jump (43' 1").

Christian Larbie was also seventh in the high jump (6' 2"). The other sevenths belonged to Adam Dickert in the shot put (47' 4"), Tyrin Fairman in the high hurdles, Bruck Luck in the javelin (148' 9") and Kotie Ashie in the 400 (50.18).

"Fortunately, some of these guys were able to advance in other events, keeping their season going," Rivera noted.

Fairman and Ashie were both on the 4x400 team that placed third in a time of 3:22.17. Juwan Tisdale and Kaseem Davis are the other two members of that team.

Jonathan Pitt also advanced with a fifth place finish in the triple jump (43' 9").

"They all gave a good effort," Rivera said. "It would have been nice to advance more, but we seemed to be tied to that number seven in the meet. That's the way it goes sometimes."
