
It didn't take the South Brunswick High boys track team very long to hit full stride this season.
"We had six champion relays (on Saturday)," South Brunswick Coach Wilfredo Rivera noted of his team's opener.
While competing in the Greater Middlesex Conference Track Coaches Relays, South Brunswick was particularly good in the throwing events. South Brunswick won the shot and discus. It placed second in the javelin.

Dominick Padovano (52' 11.5") and Adam Dickert (44' 8") won the shot. Padovano (151' 10") and Dickert (44' 8") also won the discus. Dickert (148') and Dave Krier (121' 8") were second in the javelin.
South Brunswick also swept the novice throwing events. Barry Potts (40' 1.5") and Joey Christian (36' 8") won the shot. Mike Greco (123' 5") and Barry Potts (119' 1") won the discus. Joey Donofrio (132' 9") and Mike Greco (122' 1") won the javelin.

Mike Weber, Matt Eder, Tyler Blackburn and Derrick Pee won the 4x1600 in a time of 18:56.05.
Kotey Ashie, Kaseem Davis, Derek Forthun and Juwan Tisdale won the 4x400 in a time of 3:29.79.
Tyrin Fairman, Saajan Chopra and Jose Baxter won the 3x400 hurdles in a time of 3:08.1.
South Brunswick's other win came in the pole vault. Derek Forthun cleared 11' 6" and Jaleel Alston went over at 11 feet.
South Brunswick had four seconds. Derek Forthun (6') and Christian Larbie (5' 11") were second in the high jump. Darrell Harper (40' 3") and Jonathan Pitt (40' 1") were second in the triple jump. Darrell Harper, Isnard Mir-Merced, Kaseem Davis and Jaleel Alston were second in the 4x100 in a time of 44.78.
"Derek Forthun and Darrell Harper had an exceptional meet," Rivera said.
South Brunswick also had four thirds. Derek Forthun, Sajaan Chopra, Jose Baxter and Tyrin Fairman were third in the shuttle hurdles in a time of 1:08.51. Hiten Doshi, Mo Ziab, Chris Barrod and Alex Weinrich were third in the distance medley in a time of 11:24.76. Derrick Pee, Mike Weber, Hiten Doshi and Tyler Blackburn were third in the the 4x800 in a time of 8:38.43. Sajaan Chopra, Darrell Harper, Jaleel Alston and Matt Eder placed third in the sprint medley in a time of 3:45.13.
"Overall, it was a great tune-up and the coaching staff is happy with the progress," Rivera said.
In novice action, Kaseem Davis (39' 9.75") and Jose Baxter (34' 1/2") won the triple jump. Steven Krier, Mo Ziab, Aaron Lasema and Shahzaib Safi won the 4x800 in a time of 8:54.06. Rohit Nalmada, Chris Barrood, Matt Tamasi and Ishaan Goel won the 4x400 in a time of 3:49.04. Shawn Kilcoyne, Rajiv Mukundan, Chris Lim and Keshav and Varadachuri won the 4x100 in a time of 49.35.
"We look forward to carrying this early-season momentum into our meets," Rivera said.
South Brunswick was hoping to carry the momentum of its strong tournament into this past Tuesday's action, but its tri-meet with Piscataway and JP Stevens was canceled. South Brunswick will have a meet at Metuchen this Saturday.
