South Brunswick Council To Weigh Gas Compressor Fight, Bond Measures Wednesday

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — The South Brunswick Township Council will meet Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Main Meeting Room of the Municipal Building, with a agenda that includes funding for the township's legal fight against a controversial natural gas compressor station and two bond ordinances totaling nearly $23 million.

Council members are set to vote on a resolution authorizing a municipal contribution toward legal and administrative expenses tied to opposing the construction and operation of Compressor Station 206 and the Williams Transco Northeast Supply Enhancement Project. The proposed project has drawn opposition from multiple New Jersey municipalities over environmental and public health concerns.

The council will also take up two bond ordinances on second reading: a $13,008,000 measure to finance utility capital improvements and a $9,787,900 measure to fund general capital improvements, to be financed in part through the issuance of $9,298,581 in bonds or notes. A separate ordinance would authorize a special emergency appropriation to cover contractually required severance liabilities.

Other business includes a resolution accepting the resignation of Ray Kuehner from the Zoning Board, and resolutions recognizing Charles Arthur Wiggs for his military service and congratulating the South Brunswick High School Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2026.

Additional second-reading ordinances would amend township code provisions on vehicles over a designated weight on certain streets and update general qualifications for members of the Police Department and Force.

The council is also scheduled to enter executive session to discuss a proposed amendment to the Wilson Farm Agreement and pending litigation related to the Edlys Lane Force Main Project.

The meeting is open to the public, with time set aside for public comment.
