SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ —With Fall officially beginning on Wednesday, a popular South Brunswick farm has designed a fun Fall activity to spread an anti-bullying message.

Von Thun’s Farm has curated a special corn maze this season to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the story of Spookley the Square Pumpkin. The bedtime story by Joe Troiano is about a square pumpkin who is teased by the others for not being square. Over the years, the story has evolved into a tool that farms across the country use to share anti-bullying messaging to young guests.

This year’s maze design features the square pumpkin surrounded by other farm fixtures. There are two phases — the first one is shorter and perfect for guests with limited walking ability. It tells the story of Spookley and how his friends helped him overcome being the only square pumpkin among round pumpkins.

The second phase is nearly five acres with lots of twists and turns to keep maze-goers on their toes. There are 10 stops along the way and guests can answer a question and get a clue as to where to turn next.

The farm also offers fun, interactive games like Farm Scene Investigator (FSI) or Maize-Opoly for guests can play as they go through the maze.
