South Brunswick Gets $378,449 For New Road Repaving

Last week, South Brunswick was one of hundreds of towns across NJ to receive state Dept. of Transportation grants for local road repairs.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Last week, South Brunswick was one of hundreds of towns across the state to receive municipal aid grants from the state Department of Transportation.

South Brunswick was given $378,449, which will be used for the repaving and resurfacing of New Road. The work will likely begin sometime in 2020.

South Brunswick applied for grant money to repair three roads: New Road, Major Road and Beekman Road. Both Major Road and Beekman Road have been selected to be funded by the state in the past two years, but this year New Road was selected, said town spokesman Ron Schmalz.

The money came as part of a $3.8 million package in municipal aid grants secured by Central Jersey local legislators, and will go to neighboring towns including East Brunswick, Edison, Helmetta, Highland Park and South River.
