
Considering the team won the previous three titles, it couldn't be called a surprise that the South Brunswick High girls golf team repeated as Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament champs.
The fact no other team could get closer than 21 strikes to South Brunswick, however, was a pleasant surprise.
"That was our lowest score of the season (186) by eight strokes," Coach Jo Dougherty noted. "The girls saved the best for last."

Katherine Chell had the best round of the day for South Brunswick, placing second with a 43.
"Katherine has shown instances of brilliance," Dougherty said. "I'm very happy she shot a 43. I knew she had it in her."

Julia Bae had a round of 45 and placed fifth.
"That was her lowest round of the season," Dougherty said.
Maggie Boyle placed 7th with a round of 46. Talia Togno added a 52.
There was officially eight teams competing in the event. East Brunswick, which came away with a win and loss against South Brunswick during the regular season, was second with a 207. Several other schools entered girls as individual players, not having the four participants needed to be entered as a team.
The tournament was held at Bunker Hill Golf Course in Princeton. Dougherty wants to thank the folks at that facility for all they have done for girls golf.
South Brunswick finished the year with a record of 7-5. It was eighth in its state sectional match. Of course, it saved its best for last.
"We won the last three GMC crowns," Dougherty noted. "If you look at the scores the teams in the tournament posted during the season, we were the front runner. Even so, it's always nice to win."
