South Brunswick Girls Lacrosse Opens with Great Week

Vikings start 3-0.

Chances are, not many teams in New Jersey had a better first week than the South Brunswick High girls lacrosse squad.

South Brunswick finished its first week of action with a record of 3-0. In its three games, South Brunswick combined to outscore its opposition 56-10.

"We're definitely off to a good start," South Brunswick Coach John Coppola said.

South Brunswick defeated South Plainfield, 19-2, on Apr. 5.

Jenna Bussiere scored three goals in the win. Marissa Cavett, Kristen Cooney, Angie Goff (two assists), Elle Hvozdovic and Kelly O'Brien added two goals each.

"We're really getting scoring from a lot of players," Coppola noted.

On April 7, South Brunswick defeated JP Stevens, 20-4.

Jenna Bussiere had four goals and two assists. Elle Hvozdovic added four goals and an assist. Kelly O'Brien and Angie Goff (assist) scored two goals each. Kristen Cooney had a goal and an assist.

This past Saturday, South Brunswick defeated North Brunswick, 17-4.

Elle Hvozdovic scored five goals. Casey Armstrong had two goals and four assists. Marissa Cavett scored three goals.

"That was probably the best game we played this year so far," Coppola said. "We dominated in all aspects. We hustled and had a good intensity. The goaltending was good. The defense was good. We played well in the midfield. We had a lot of scoring. We had a complete effort today."

South Brunswick is scheduled to be back in action Tuesday at Old Bridge.

"That's a big game," Coppola said. "They are also undefeated. It's still early in the season, but that could be a battle to decide the division championship."

South Brunswick certainly comes into the game playing great lacrosse.
