South Brunswick High Grad Leads Pro-Refugee Rally

Sara Ali, 21, led a rally against Gov. Chris Christie and his remarks about not letting Syrian refugees into New Jersey.

This South Brunswick High alum wants Gov. Chris Christie to know that not everyone agrees with his stance on not allowing Syrian refugees into the state.

Sara Ali, 21, who grew up in South Brunswick and graduated from South Brunswick High, organized a rally last month outside the governor’s mansion, Drumthwacket.

“Gov. Chris Christie made some comments on the radio about not accepting Syrian refugees, and that was appalling,” Ali, who now lives in Princeton, told TAPinto.net. “We want to get together and show people that he doesn’t speak for us.”

“We want people to know this is not how the people of New Jersey (would handle this), it’s not how we act,” she added, according to the report. She helped organized the rally, along with others.

Ali, who, according to the article was raised Muslim, also said that Islam does not cause the terrorism carried out by groups such as ISIS.

“Islam does not teach you to kill everyone who doesn’t believe (as you do),” she told TAP.
