South Brunswick High School To Reopen After Thanksgiving
Plans to reopen school for in-person classes on Nov. 16 have been put on hold after to two positive COVID case.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Plans to reopen South Brunswick High School have been put on hold after two COVID positive cases, school Superintendent Scott Feder told the school community on Tuesday.
High school students who opted for in-person classes in the hybrid model, were scheduled to return to school buildings on Nov. 16.
“Due to two separate positive cases at the high school, a student and a staff member (unrelated cases), it will be necessary for the high school to close for 14 days as per CDC guidelines,” said Feder.

The school will remain closed until after Thanksgiving.
“This would bring the opening day return date to just shy of Thanksgiving... Therefore, for the purpose of continuity, I am keeping the high school closed until after Thanksgiving which would bring the new opening date to Nov. 30,” said Feder.

High school sports will however continue as there are no cases related to any athletics team so far.
“I cannot imagine a more disruptive notice coming from the school less than a week prior to the changes that were slated,” Feder said.
Given the spike in COVID cases statewide, Feder said the school district needs to adapt to changes quickly.
“The rules associated with cases in schools are strict and based upon the 3,800+ positive cases being reported in the state today alone, we may be in for more disruption to our plans,” he said.
Feder asked the community to brace for the school district being impacted by COVID-19 in the coming days.
“Our number one priority remains the safety of our students and staff. I gave up making predictions many months ago, but I want to reiterate the need for us all to brace for this second wave and its impact on school,” he said.
