South Brunswick Home Depot Replaces Roof On Local VFW Building

The South Brunswick Home Depot donated the supplies and manpower to replace the roof at South Brunswick VFW Post #9111.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — How's that for community service? The South Brunswick Home Depot on Rt. 1 recently donated the supplies and manpower needed to replace the roof on a storage shed at South Brunswick VFW Post #9111.

The storage shed was badly in need of a new roof, said Bob Kelly, the commander of Post #9111. The post is located on Henderson Road, near the corner of Rt. 27.

"I had heard that Home Depot gives grants to a lot of different non-profits, and that they especially like to help out veterans' groups," said Kelly. "So I went to the Home Depot in Monmouth Junction and asked them if they could help. This was back in July. I had to apply for a grant and we were accepted."

Last Thursday, three employees from Home Depot showed up and, along with VFW members, the men took down the roof and put a new one up. That's the VFW members and Home Depot employees pictured above. Kelly estimates Home Depot donated over $1,000 in supplies and equipment, including new shingles.

"The manager there even said let us know if there's anything else they can do," said Kelly. "So we're currently looking to find a veteran who needs a ramp or something for his house. People should let us know if there is a vet in the area in need."

There are about 150 members of the South Brunswick VFW, from all areas of military service, from WW II to the recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Kelly, 77, served in the Cuban Missile Crisis.
