South Brunswick HS Sings National Anthem Acapella After Recording Fails

You can watch their impressive-- and microphone free!-- performance here.

You wouldn't expect a high school powder puff football game to bring tears to your eyes, but South Brunswick High School would prove you wrong.

A recording of the National Anthem was supposed to be played before the game started, in lieu of a live performance. But the recording never started, leaving the crowd in an awkward silence.

Then, the teams began singing. At first, you can't even hear the song, but as more players join in, the anthem grows stronger.

“There’ a lot of school spirit involved. A lot of decorating that leads up to the event itself. It’s an event I look forward to every year,” Varela said in an interview with New Jersey 101.5’s Dan Alexander. “I felt this pride and felt proud of the kids to take it upon themselves (to sing).”
