South Brunswick Learns About, Celebrates Its Diverse Faiths

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — The South Brunswick Human Relations Commission held the sixth of their "Faith, Conversation and Coffee" events Thursday night, March 7 at St. Augustine of Canterbury Church.

Reverend Canon Robert Lynam (Father Bob) presented on Catholicism and the season of Lent, and highlighted the similarities among the various faiths. South Brunswick residents of diverse faiths — Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, various Christian denominations and others — attended the event as they gained better insight and understanding of the 40-day Lent observance and the history of the Catholic faith.

South Brunswick Deputy Mayor Joe Camorato, Councilwoman Archana Grover and the Director of Community Affairs for Assemblyman Roy Freiman, Rachel Frish all attended the event.

"Today, I remain proud to call South Brunswick my home because our town continues to embrace our diversity as one of our core strengths and values," said Assemblyman Andrew Zwicker (D), in a letter sent to the Human Relations Commission stating his support for the event.

The South Brunswick Human Relations Commission has held the “Faith, Conversation and Coffee” events at the following houses of worship: St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Islamic Society of Central Jersey, Congregation B’Nai Tikvah, Shree Swaminarayan Hindu Temple and the New Jersey Buddhist Vihara.

The Commission is very grateful for the support from the South Brunswick community and plans to continue to offer programs to help promote and foster goodwill and cooperation among the diverse residents of South Brunswick.
