SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — If the number of coronavirus cases in town continue to drop, South Brunswick Public Library "could begin to slowly phase in its reopening plan as early as mid-April," Director Chris Carbone said.

With steady COVID-19 vaccine rollout and many residents being inoculated, things are getting better but still not back to normal, said Carbone.

If the situation improves in the coming weeks, SBPL will begin reopening in a phased manner and will make an announcement closer to mid-April.

A year ago in March 2020, SBPL closed doors to residents due to the pandemic.

While townships were looking at ways to navigate the pandemic while keeping services open, SBPL jumped into action, adapting to changes and providing services to customers.

Throughout the pandemic, SBPL kept their phone lines open, offered safe drop off and pick up and introduced several virtual events for residents.

“The goal has always been to maintain a consistent level of service,” Carbone said in a statement.

The Library even invited the public to share their Wi-Fi in the parking lot while they sat with their laptops in their cars.

SBPL said it was grateful for the continued support, patience and understanding of the township community.

And as a thank you, they have offered residents small tokens of appreciation, like waiving any fees for movie and video game rentals, putting little thank-you notes in the patrons’ pick-up bags and even adding a fortune cookie for the Lunar New Year.
