SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — The South Brunswick Public Library recently renamed the building in honor of former Mayor Christopher J. Killmurray.

Around a 100 people gathered outside the library building last Saturday for the ceremony.

Members of the South Brunswick Police Department stood along Kingston Lane, flashing lights on police vehicles behind them.

Mayor Charles Carley along with library administrators, friends and family of the late councilman were present. Killmurray passed away in April 2018.

Several months ago, the Township Council and Library Board of Trustees voted unanimously to name the Library in honor of Killmurray, around the same time as state funding was approved for the library building construction project.

The one hour ceremony featured bagpipes, singing of the National Anthem, and the South Brunswick Honor Guard salute.

Library Director Christopher Carbone welcomed the guests, while Rev. Charles O’Connor, Pastor of the St. Cecilia Church in Monmouth Junction, led an invocation.

In his speech, Carley joked that Killmurray would likely have not enjoyed being the focus of an event. Instead, Carley said, “Chris was a helper,” preferring to work behind the scenes.

Bouquets and plaques were presented to the Killmurray family and then his two sons Conor and Patrick helped unveil the new Library sign.
